Luftbild Ostseefjord Schlei, Stadt Arnis - kleinste Stadt Deutschlands - Perle an der Schlei | Am 1. Januar 1934 wurde Arnis zunächst auf Probe zur Stadt erklärt, und das offizielle Stadtgründungsdatum wird am 14. April 1934 festgehalten, als der Schleswiger Landrat Anton Wallroth den ehrenamtlichen Bürgermeister ernannte. Diese Entscheidung war Teil einer allgemeinen Regelung, die am 20. Dezember 1933 beschlossen wurde, nach der alle Orte in Schleswig-Holstein, die bisher Städte oder Flecken waren, künftig als Städte geführt werden sollten.
